ABU DHABI ESTABLISHES LABOUR PROSECUTION TO PROTECT WORKERS’ RIGHTS

Summary: The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has announced the launch of the Abu Dhabi Labour Prosecution, a specialised body dedicated to handling labour disputes and domestic worker cases. This move represents a significant step in strengthening workplace justice and reflects the emirate’s commitment to modernising its judicial framework and safeguarding workers’ rights.

In Detail: In a landmark move to bolster justice and fairness in the workplace, the ADJD has announced the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Labour Prosecution. This specialised body will oversee investigations and claims involving labour disputes and domestic worker cases, marking a major step in modernising the emirate’s judicial system.

This reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to expanding specialised prosecutions that ensure swift, accurate, and efficient judicial processes. By tailoring legal services to the specific needs of the labour sector, the emirate is reinforcing transparency, accountability, and the protection of workers’ rights.

The Labour Prosecution will have jurisdiction across the emirate, covering Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, handling cases under Federal Law No. 33 of 2021 on employment relations and Federal Law No. 9 of 2022 on domestic workers. Its work ranges from unpaid wages and contract violations to workplace abuse and unsafe conditions.

This initiative addresses the needs of Abu Dhabi’s diverse workforce, which includes employees in construction, hospitality, healthcare, retail, and domestic services. By providing a dedicated legal team with deep expertise in the UAE labour law, the prosecution ensures fair outcomes for both workers and employers, creating a balanced and predictable legal environment.

Trained prosecutors and support staff will help expedite case resolution, reducing backlogs and uncertainty for all parties. Special attention will also be given to protecting domestic workers, offering them a clear channel to seek justice while upholding their rights under the law.

For employers, the Labour Prosecution provides clarity and reassurance that disputes will be handled professionally and fairly. Transparent procedures and public awareness campaigns will inform workers and employers of their rights and obligations, fostering trust and legal compliance throughout the workforce.

The launch of the Abu Dhabi Labour Prosecution aligns with the UAE’s broader vision for a world-class judicial system. By combining specialised expertise, transparency, and speed, the emirate is setting a regional example for fair labour practices while strengthening its global reputation as a hub for business and human rights.

With this initiative, Abu Dhabi not only protects its workforce but also reinforces confidence in its judicial system, paving the way for sustainable economic growth and social progress.
